The Caravan aims to raise awareness among the general public and public actors about the loneliness of older people, rebuild social ties, and help isolated and vulnerable seniors get out of their isolation.
"Coming Near You"
Following its success in Forest, the Caravan returns the last week of August at the Halle Gate in Saint-Gilles to meet isolated and vulnerable elderly people in their neighborhood.
The Caravan aims to create a friendly and mobile space where seniors can stop for a coffee and talk with associations about issues related to housing, care, loneliness, and more.
Everyone can come together and exchange in a warm atmosphere to raise awareness about loneliness among elderly people.
Initiated in 2018 by the NGO Bras dessus Bras dessous, the be.Source foundation, together with its 8 partners, decided to make it a joint project for summer 2019. The Caravan is a local project aiming to promote meetings between neighborhood residents, young and old, by moving close to elderly people suffering from loneliness and isolation.
A multidisciplinary team active in mobility, home care and assistance, social connections, leisure, and housing sets up a caravan in a Brussels neighborhood for a week to offer advice, support, and a listening ear to the loneliest elderly willing to chat over a table, a coffee, or a board game.
There, they can benefit from advice and support regarding mobility, housing, home care, or leisure activities.
The Caravan was at Marconi Park (Forest) from 17/06 to 21/06 and welcomed 600 curious visitors, with 153 people stopping to chat and have a coffee.
The Caravan is open Monday to Thursday from 10:00 to 16:30 and Friday from 10:00 to 18:00, with a musical animation to close the week.
